Inspired perfumes: what they are, how they compare and what to expect
6 Oct 2026 · 5 min read · Al Fattah Perfume, Dubai
Search for almost any famous fragrance alongside the word “Dubai” and you will find inspired versions at a tenth of the price. Some are excellent, some are not, and the difference is rarely explained. Here is how Al Fattah approaches it.
What “inspired by” means
An inspired perfume is an original composition built to share the scent profile of a well-known fragrance — the same families of notes in a similar balance — without copying the formula, the bottle or the name. The brand names you see on our product pages are there only so you can compare; they belong to their owners, and our blends are not sold as the original.
Where the money goes in a designer bottle
- Marketing and celebrity campaigns are the largest line in a designer perfume's price.
- Packaging, retail margin and import duty come next.
- The juice itself — the raw fragrance accords — is typically under a tenth of the shelf price.
An inspired house that buys accords from the same suppliers, blends locally in Dubai and sells online can price the same quality of juice at AED 49 to 79 because it carries none of the first three costs.
What to check before you buy
- Concentration — ask for eau de parfum (15–20 %) or extrait (up to 30 %). Anything lighter will not last in the Gulf.
- Resting time — good blends are rested for at least two weeks after mixing so the notes settle. Ours are.
- Reviews from local wearers, not just star ratings, and a clear returns policy for damaged or wrong items.
- A 50 ml option, so you can try a new profile before committing to the 100 ml.
What to expect on skin
The opening will be close to the original; the dry-down is where inspired blends differ most, because base materials vary. Give any new bottle three wears before judging. If you want the character of a scent you love for everyday wear — and are happy that it is its own composition — an inspired perfume at eau de parfum strength is the sensible choice.
